Peter A. Guastamachio has served as State Fund’s Chief Investment Officer since January 2009.
Guastamachio brings more than 30 years’ experience in the financial world. Prior to joining State Fund, he served as vice president-assistant portfolio manager for Bank of the West in Walnut Creek, California. In this capacity he helped restructure the bank’s $9 billion investment portfolio to enhance returns through diversification into new sectors. He also monitored portfolio cash flows, and collateral requirements and prepared portfolio budgets.
He additionally served in various capacities with Argonaut Insurance in Menlo Park, California ultimately becoming assistant vice president-assistant treasurer/investment director. At Argonaut, Guastamachio managed the company’s $1.8 billion investment portfolio. He was responsible for restructuring the portfolio to not only enhance returns, but also reduce risk through diversification into new sectors.
Guastamachio has served as an investment banker with Bangert, Dawes, Reade, Davis & Thom, Inc., in San Francisco where he managed and monitored investments for small- to mid-size companies. He has also worked as a tax shelter specialist with Sutro & Company, Inc. and as an account executive with Dean Witter Reynolds.
He received his bachelor of science degree from the University of California, Berkeley, and an MBA from the Graduate School of Business at St. Mary’s College.
The Chief Investment Officer is responsible for providing management and oversight for State Fund’s investment portfolio in accordance with applicable State Fund investment strategies and guidelines.
