Lawrence Mulryan is Chair of the State Fund Board of Directors. He has more than 30 years experience within the industry’s legal and regulatory arenas, and is widely considered one of California’s leading insurance experts.
He was Executive Director of the California Insurance Guarantee Association (CIGA) from 1992 to 2006. Prior to that, Mulryan worked in the insurance industry as legal counsel and senior executive, which included trade association representation, drafting legislation, and managing and lobbying on legislative matters.
He worked for the Industrial Indemnity Insurance Company as Vice President from 1970 to 1992, Manager from 1968 to 1970, and Attorney from 1966 to 1968.
In addition, Mulryan spent over 20 years on the San Rafael City Council, serving three terms as mayor, beginning in 1979.
Mulryan received his J.D. from the University of California Hastings College of Law and was a member of the Hastings Law Review. He received his Bachelor of Science degree in Economics and Political Science from San Diego State University.
